Leaders Read

At Byrider, "Leaders Read" was a recurring reminder of founder James DeVoe Sr., commonly referred to as Big Jim, and his commitment to continuous improvement, self-discipline, and intellectual curiosity. The training department's monthly newsletter often carried it, with specific examples. DeVoe started J.D. Byrider in 1989 and studied successful leaders through biographies and audio recordings of their life stories.

I never met him, but I spent 2009 to 2017 inside the company he built. I taught franchisees from across the country, sat through Speed of Trust with the whole corporate team, and watched owners debate big changes like GoJDB.com and automated review requests.

Nearly a decade after my time at Byrider HQ ended, I still download a new book on Audible every two to three weeks. Every review here is my own take on what a book argues, what stuck with me, and where it fell short.
